Travelling exhibition: Gelderland time travel

At the table with Rozet Arnhem

The Gelderland Time Travel is a continuing study into the identity of Gelderland. Katja Gruijters researched the history and agricultural background of the province. She gives a glimpse behind the scenes of the Gelderland Time Travel during the exhibition ‘Laat het Smaken’, from 12 February to 12 June in Rozet. Afterwards, the Time Travel will tour Gelderland, with flavours, ingredients, presentation and icons changing per region.

The cultural-historical collection of Rozet Arnhem was the starting point for the research question ‘Who am I and where do I come from?’. This changes per region, so that influences from the past, present and future become tangible and palpable. Visitors discover how the food landscape and the mix of ingredients, trade, food cultures and flavours together form the character of Gelderland.

Did you know that the Romans and later inhabitants of Gelderland contributed to what we eat today with their seeds, herbs and cooking knowledge? From medieval estates to country houses in the early modern period; new plants, seeds and gardening ideas came to Gelderland and turned the province into a place full of culinary discoveries.

You are invited to join in: taste, smell, discover and experiment. Experience regional flavours and stories, take part in workshops and activities, and bring the historical collection of the six Gelderland regions – from Groene Metropool to Rivierenland – to life.

One of the highlights is the workshop ‘Een koekje van ander deeg’, in which you will work with recipes, ingredients and stories that are typical of Arnhem and the region. Register now for the workshop on 3 or 10 March and discover how traditions, flavours and cultural icons develop from the past to the present and future.
