Dinner Nostalgia for the Future

For the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision, we developed a food design dream dinner. An interactive programme aimed at providing food for thought and profound conversation during an event for business relations and employees.

Beeld & Geluid, as it is called in Dutch, is the perfect place to experience the past and the future. Where media come together; in the colourful Media Museum, in the depot, online or on location. On 25 September, guests were taken on a journey through time: into the past, present and future. A journey in which food design, music and inspiring speakers took centre stage.

Journey through time

The journey through time began after taking the seeds time capsule ‘Seeds, the time capsules of life’.

Past

The guests were immersed in nostalgia during a happy hour with vintage snacks and matching cocktails. The Metropole Orchestra provided a fitting musical backdrop with old television tunes.

Present: transition

Sound & Vision’ media collection is constantly being expanded with new treasures and is therefore, like the media landscape, in constant transition. We depicted this through the ‘living archive’: a seed as a time capsule for life. Timeless, always in transition and essential to life. For their appetiser, people could choose ‘fast’ or ‘slow’.

Fast: brioche with jackfruit burger and salsa. Slow: pita with lupine falafel and sprouts.

Present: living archive

In the present, we archive and preserve the main course. A living archive where you share, taste and experience transitions, growth, innovations and knowledge.

People feasted on roasted celeriac with aubergine gorgonzola cream, hibiscus, radish, sweet and sour kohlrabi & parsley oil. To this, they could add their own seeds and herb salad. Everyone created their own story!

Future: deep-fake dessert

Welcome to the future. What is real and what is fake? It can be hard to distinguish between the two in the media, especially with the advent of artificial intelligence. That is why guests were treated to a deepfake dessert. Their challenge: which flavours and ingredients do you recognise?
